Christine Sinclair has been inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, British Columbia, has been inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame. Sinclair, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021 (as well as bronze medals at the 2020 Olympics). London 2012 Olympic Games and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro) is considered one of the best footballers of all time. Her 190 international goals are the most ever scored by a female soccer player.

Joining Sinclair is former NHL All-Star Ray Ferraro of Trail, B.C. Ferraro played 1,258 NHL regular season games as a center with the Hartford Whalers, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. He played for the Atlanta Thrashers and the St. Louis Blues from 1984 to 2002. In 18 seasons he scored 408 goals and 490 assists for 898 points.

Other athletes inducted included 1990 women’s downhill mountain bike world champion Cindy Devine of Whistler, rugby player Nathan Hirayama of Richmond and Walter Wu of Richmond. Hirayama was Canada’s flag bearer in the opening ceremonies of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, while Wu won nine Paralympic gold medals in swimming from 1996 to 2004. Newly inducted builders included Saul Miller (sports psychology), Wes Woo (weightlifting) and Chandra Madhosingh (table tennis), while the 2000 BC Lions, the Maeraloma Club, which offers athletes the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports, hockey and Baseball broadcaster Jim Hughson and former Tennis Canada chairman Robert Wright are also recognized.
