Michael Spavor, one of the “two Michaels” in the conflict between China and Canada, was ultimately sentenced to 11 years in prison for espionage, BBC News reported on August 11, 2021. Previously, with Michael Kovrig, the two had been detained for no apparent reason, other than, although not recognized, that Canada had previously detained a Chinese citizen, businesswoman Meng Wanzhou, since 2018.
