China urges the United States to stop bringing politics into sports.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING – China has warned of a United States (US) diplomatic boycott against Winter Olympics Beijing 2022 could threaten cooperative relations between the two countries. It can undermine two-way dialogue and cooperation in important areas.
Previously, China had also called for political interests to be kept away from sports. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs China Zhao Lijian said China opposes the boycott and will take firm retaliation.

The boycott comes just weeks after a virtual meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting is known to be intended to ease tensions in relations between their countries.
On Monday (6/12), the U.S. White House said U.S. government officials would boycott the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics on the basis of human rights atrocities in China. Even so, American athletes are still allowed to participate.
The United States is notorious for issuing harsh criticisms of Beijing often, especially those related to human rights issues. The Hong Kong controversy, disputes over Taiwan’s status, and allegations of human rights violations against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang province are some of the issues the United States often raises in criticism of China. .
