The Torontonians defeated Switzerland’s Nina Brunner and Tanja Huberli 2-0 (21-16, 21-14) in the match for third place in the Czech Republic.

“I think in that game we adopted the mentality of leaving everything on the pitch,” said Humana-Paredes. “It’s been a long week so we wanted to do everything we could and I think we succeeded. We got the result (from that game) that we wanted.”

Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals in a tiebreak loss to Terese Cannon and Sarah Sponcil of the USA (19-21, 23-21, 15-13).

Canada worked from the qualifying round to secure a place in the playoffs.

“We’re continuing to work,” Wilkerson said. “It’s great to go from qualifying to a medal, but there are still a few top places we want to get (on the podium) so there’s still a lot to do.”

Cannon and Sponcil were later defeated in the women’s gold medal match by Brazilians Ana Patricia and Duda 21:17, 14:21, 12:15.

This was Canada’s only participation in the tournament.
