Canadian women drop one spot to 7th in the current FIFA World Ranking

The Canadian women have slipped one spot to 7th in the latest FIFA World Rankings and were overtaken by Spain ahead of next month’s Women’s World Cup.

Canada have played just one game since the last ranking in late March, losing 2-1 to France.

The top 5 remains the same, with the US topping the list, ahead of Germany, Sweden, England and France. After Spain and Canada, Brazil ranks 8th, while the Netherlands slips down one place to 9th.

Australia, one of Canada’s Group B opponents at the World Cup. remains No. 10. Ireland and Nigeria are Canada’s other first-round opponents, with Ireland unchanged at 22nd and Africa’s team up two places at 40th.

According to FIFA, 101 international matches have been played since the March rankings.

Bhutan was the biggest mover, climbing seven places to 171. Indonesia suffered the biggest drop, falling six places to 105.

Slovenia (#39), the Philippines (#46), Cambodia (#118) and Saudi Arabia (#170) all hit all-time highs in the rankings.

Spain and Ireland are two of 11 countries to record their best FIFA Rankings scores to date. The others are Slovenia, Philippines, Zambia, Cambodia, Cyprus, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Bhutan.
