A Canadian tourist who was attacked in downtown Dublin last month has died in hospital.
Neno Dolmajian, a man in his 40s, was attacked on O’Connell Street on Sunday, June 23.
The man was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident. He died in hospital on Tuesday.
So far, four men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Two of these men were charged and appeared before the criminal courts.
Gardaí said they could not release any further information as the case was currently pending before the courts.
After the Gardaí confirmed his death, Taoiseach Simon Harris told the Dáil: “I would like to join you in expressing my condolences to the family.”
“This is a heartbreaking situation. This is an extraordinarily devastating situation for the family.”
Aontú leader Peadar Toibín said: “Our deepest condolences go out to his family.
“The fact that our capital’s main street is regularly a dangerous and violent place for so many people points to a very, very serious problem.
“People do not feel safe not only on the main street of our capital, but in towns and villages across the country. And that is no coincidence.
“This is because we have the lowest number of Gardaí per capita.”
