Canadian soccer player Desiree Scott is retiring at the age of 37

According to the Canadian Press On Thursday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Desiree Scott of Winnipeg, Manitoba, plans to retire at the end of the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League season at the age of 37. Scott won a gold medal for Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and was also part of the bronze medal-winning Canadian teams London 2012 Olympic Games and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Also at the international level, Scott won a gold medal for Canada at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

As a midfielder, Scott played 187 international games for Canada, but did not score a goal. Scott had a goal professionally. It happened during the 2010 United Soccer League-Women’s League game when Scott was a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

At the university level, Scott played for the University of Manitoba Bisons of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport. She was there for five years from 2005 to 2009. During his time with the Bisons, Scott won the 2005 Canada West Rookie of the Year Award.

On a professional level, Scott has spent time in the United States. She was with FC Kansas City in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2013, 2016 and 2017, with the Utah Royals in the NWSL from 2018 to 2020 and with Kansas City Current since 2021. Scott also played two seasons with Notts County in England in 2014 and 2015.
