Police in Quebec, Canada apologize to the family of a woman who died after throwing the burnt body into a trash can. Police must have mistakenly believed that the woman’s remains were the remains of a burnt dummy. He writes Initiated.
The incident took place on July 23 this year when firefighters moved into a forest near Sherbrooke in the Canadian province of Quebec after a report that a dummy was on fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found what they believed to be a grilled silicone dummy.
“When they arrived at the scene, a witness said that someone had set a silicone mannequin on fire,” Sherbrooke police chief Danny McConnel said. Radio-Canada.
Was thrown in the trash
According to McConnel, firefighters and police agreed to have the “dummy” dumped in a trash can at the police station. Hours later, police received a phone call from a man who reported his partner missing.
When police found the missing woman’s cell phone, the signals led them to a parked car near where the “mannequin fire” had occurred.
– Based on the coincidence, the policeman who had previously responded to the fire figured out what had happened, McConnel said.
Police then recovered the remains of the body from the trash and identified her as the missing woman.
– We are of course sorry for the situation and the family will be informed of all the important details thanks to the investigation, says McConnel.
According to CTV News the police will spend the next few weeks finding out what happened to the woman.
Easy to make mistakes
Pathologist Robert Nicholson at Granby Hospital in Quebec says Radio-Canada that there are situations where it is not unreasonable to believe that a charred corpse is a charred dummy.
