Canadian newlyweds Jaclyn and Brennen McConnell were forced to sleep on a mountain after a gondola went down and they were stranded along with hundreds of other visitors.

The couple slept on the floor in a building at the top of the mountain. The couple wed Monday before taking the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulfur Mountain for wedding photos taken by photographer Pala Kovacs, according to a report by National Post.

Over 300 people were trapped on Sulfur Mountain in Canada’s Banff National Park after a lightning strike caused a power outage and gondola rides were suspended.

“We had only planned to stay up there for an hour. Pala took the most unreal photos,” Jaclyn McConnell said in an interview with on Wednesday CBC News.

“We were just leaving when the power went out. So we took a few more photos, but then nothing happened and we stayed there for 13 hours.”

The couple said there doesn’t seem to be a big plan.

“We waited and at various intervals we were told what they were doing, but it was completely obvious that they didn’t have a contingency plan,” Mr Kovacs said. “But the staff up there was really great.”

Ms. Kovacs also shared a video of the helicopter rescue.

“We slept on the floor, ate whatever snacks we could get our hands on and just waited until we could go back down the mountain. There is no way I will ever forget this wedding anniversary. @banffgondola I’m really glad that happened.” It doesn’t happen in winter, we were cold there in the summer nights. Time to get a reinforcement for your gondola! However, kudos to your staff who took over 20 hours to look after your guests. I hope you treat her well!”
