Advances in Sensitive NeuroCatch® Plus Next Generation in Detecting Changes in Brain Function – Rapid Adoption in Concussion

SURREY, BC, September 27, 2022 /CNW/ – NeuroCatch Inc. (“NCI”), a subsidiary of HealthTech Connect (“HTC”), is delighted to announce that the new version of its revolutionary NeuroCatch® Platform brain function assessment system has received a medical device license from Health Canada. The previous generation NeuroCatch® already received Health Canada approval in 2019 and is currently being used in a number of clinical research studies across North America.

NeuroCatch® is a state-of-the-art medical device that provides rapid and objective assessment of cognitive brain function in minutes at the point of care. The technology is used through Canada and the UNITED STATES to assess concussions and other neurological conditions. The latest innovative advances in the next generation of NeuroCatch® enable 10-15x improved sensitivity in detecting subtle but significant changes in brain function when monitoring neurological conditions such as concussions and brain injury.

The NeuroCatch® platform can be used in a variety of health conditions, including brain injury, neurological disease, mental health issues, and brain optimization. Following its FDA clearance in the UNITED STATESHealth Canada’s latest approval clears the way for clinicians and researchers Canada to rapidly exploit the next-generation capabilities of this cutting-edge technology.

“We are extremely proud that Health Canada quickly provided our latest medical device approval for the next generation of NeuroCatch®,” said dr. Ryan D’ArcyPresident and Scientific Director of HealthTech Connex. “As a leading neurotechnology R&D company, we are committed to delivering the highest possible quality through pioneering scientific breakthroughs. The capabilities built into this next generation NeuroCatch® represents a major leap forward, providing healthcare practitioners and researchers with even greater evidence-based assessment capabilities to quickly and accurately provide an objective measure of cognitive function, which is delivered within minutes at the point on duty.

The world’s first fully accessible and wearable cognitive brain scanner, NeuroCatch® consists of brainwave sensors (electroencephalography or EEG) embedded in a mesh cap, which interfaces with a custom hardware/software platform to provide standardized medical grade results. Healthcare professionals and qualified researchers can use the NeuroCatch® Platform at any point of care in healthcare facilities including clinics, laboratories, hospitals, sports venues, schools, military theaters and remote deployments. It is useful at any point in the continuum of care, from initial assessment to ongoing treatment, with immediate and intuitive results to guide clinical decisions.

The results simplify interpretation by translating evoked brain responses into intuitive radar plots that can be compared to past scans over time.

The next generation of NeuroCatch® offers notable advancements, including:

  • A cloud-based platform providing real-time access to highly anticipated radar plots, displaying the largest and most representative prescriptive benchmark datasets (Source).
  • An innovative EPiO adapter, providing a 10-15x improvement in timing accuracy and sensitivity (Source).
  • Rapid, objective, and physiological cognitive reports that provide sensitive measures of digital cognitive function.
  • Deployable digital health technology that can be applied at any point of care where professional healthcare and clinical research is conducted.

The NeuroCatch® platform is currently being used for clinical and research applications at leading centers across Canada and the United States, including a long-haul COVID Brain Fog Treatment Program at Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic. Groundbreaking concussion research studies with youth hockey and soccer players were led by Mayo Clinic and Sanford Clinic, respectively. Since then, NeuroCatch® has been rapidly and widely deployed in a range of clinical and research investigations to help clinicians diagnose concussions where they occur, identify breakthrough treatments, effective preventative options, and begin to predict undesirable results.

When brain damage is more severe, NeuroCatch® is used by leaders at Alberta Children’s Hospital and Weill Cornell Medicine in Cornell University to help improve clinical care. Expanding clinical applications of NeuroCatch® include healthy cognitive aging, neurological diseases (eg, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis), mental health (eg, anxiety, depression and PTSD) and optimizing brain performance.

“NeuroCatch® is derived from cutting-edge science and research to provide an objective, sensitive, rapid and portable assessment of elements of cognitive brain function,” said Michael EsserMD, PhD., pediatric neurologist and director of the Neurocritical Care and Translational Research Program at Alberta Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary. “This unlocks long-awaited capabilities for clinicians and researchers to advance brain health care. We have used NeuroCatch® in our concussion research examining children with mild traumatic brain injury and we are thrilled and expect this next generation release for sensitivity gains and intuitive NeuroCatch® prioritizes quality, collaborative working and providing an automated, standardized and easy-to-use clinical tool, without resorting to a ” black box” in terms of full clinician control to help our patients.”

“I was at the top of my game, riding a Ride to Conquer Cancer, when I slipped and fell into a tub, breaking the fall with my head. I hadn’t realized I had a serious concussion, but I finished the bike ride in serious trouble,” says Tom Duttafounder and CEO of KRE-AT®, TEDx speaker, international bestselling author and radio/film producer. “I slipped into mental health issues, experienced chronic anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, debilitating light sensitivity, double vision, impaired gait, balance, function vestibular and executive pains and major headaches. It was only when I sought medical help with advanced neuroscience capabilities by looking inside my brain, did I begin to see and feel improvements. NeuroCatch has helped me track the progress of my brain function and, along with several neurological therapies, has had a significant impact on my current recovery. The greatest advice I can give to someone like me is a quote from stephen hawking: ‘Be brave, be curious, be determined, overcome obstacles. It can be done.'”
