by Edie Jenkins

MONTREAL, KOMPAS.com – Canada’s election was won again by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was elected to a third term after his Liberal party won the most seats in Parliament on Monday (9/20/2021).

In his victory speech in the 2021 Canadian elections in the city of Montreal, province of Quebec, Justin Trudeau warmly welcomed the new mandate entrusted by his people.

“The voters gave this government a clear mandate to get back to work, in particular to lead Canada through this pandemic,” he said.

Trudeau added that millions of Canadians have chosen to choose the program of the progressive government that the Liberal Party is fighting for.

Justin Trudeau’s game flop in the Canadian election

Although he followed in the footsteps of his father, Pierre Trudeau, who won the Canadian federal election three times, this victory seemed empty for Justin Trudeau.

He failed to recover the parliamentary majority that eluded him in the 2019 Canadian election.

Even if the Canadian election this time took place two years early, an early election to achieve the majority goal.

Instead of a majority, the 49-year-old Canadian Prime Minister will return to head a second minority government.

The 2021 Canadian election results are almost similar to the previous election results.

Of a total of 98 percent of the data entered, Liberal added a seat of 157 to 158 seats.

A minimum of 170 seats is needed to obtain a majority in the Canadian parliament.

The Liberals’ main rival, Erin O’Toole’s Conservative Party, lost two seats from 121 to 119.

Getting seats that aren’t much different is a clear political signal from the Canadian people, who are angry with Trudeau’s political decision to hold an early election amid wave four of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sophie Trudeau’s husband is seen as an opportunist capitalizing on the success of the national immunization program. As a result, Justin Trudeau’s lead, which had reached 5 to 10 points before the dissolution of Parliament, disappeared at the start of the Canadian election campaign.

Polls leading up to election day in Canada in 2021 show very close competition between Liberals and Conservatives.

In fact, party officials feared Trudeau would lose the prime minister seat he had held for 6 years.

The continued support of the two voting provinces, Ontario and Quebec, which account for over 50 percent of Canada’s parliamentary seats, saved Justin Trudeau’s political career.

How long Justin Trudeau stays in power will depend on internal support from the Liberal Party.

To be sure, Justin Trudeau’s charm and political support weakened with the results of the 2021 Canadian election, making him lead a minority government for the second time.
