Penticton, a city in central British Columbia, recorded a high temperature of 72.5 degrees Fahrenheit or 22.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday (1/12/2021).
“It’s a record or the equivalent of a record (hottest temperature in winter) to be exact,” said Armel Castellan, Environment Canada meteorologist. AFP.
According to him, the Canadian winter air temperature, which reached 72.5 degrees Fahrenheit or 22.5 degrees Celsius, also occurred on December 3, 1982 in the city of Hamilton, Ontario.

Penticton is a town a few hundred kilometers southeast of Lytton.
Lytton, located 250 kilometers northeast of Vancouver, recently gained international attention over the summer for breaking the record for the hottest temperature in Canada.
No kidding, the temperature hit 49.6 degrees Celsius or 121.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
At that time, the heatwave even worsened forest fires and killed hundreds.
“Since September, we have been receiving a lot of heat from the subtropics,” explains Castellan.
In the past week or so, he said, an “atmospheric river” has been raging through southwestern British Columbia, the third so far.

Heavy rains have caused catastrophic flooding in the province since mid-November 2021. The Canadian flash flood has also been linked by authorities to the impact of climate change.
Warm or high temperatures in winter have also spread throughout the northwestern United States.
In which, the states of Washington, Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota tied previous records or set new ones on Wednesday.
The temperature rose to 35 degrees Fahrenheit above normal.
California authorities plan to put in place a heat wave warning system next year that will rank each wave based on the number of potential deaths, to encourage preventive action.
Recent studies have shown that climate change is directly responsible for some heat waves.
The one that hit Canada in June would be nearly impossible without the effects of man-made global warming, according to the science consortium World Weather Attribution.
