days of our lives Canadian fans suffered a major blow this week when Eastlink Cable reported they will lose access to The W network, as well as 33 other Corus Entertainment channels, after it failed to reach an agreement in transmission negotiations with Corus Entertainment. Fans can still watch DAYS on Peacock on the Global TV app, but the episodes are a day behind.
Days of our lives: Negotiations are still open
Die-hard DAYS fans may be down, but not out. You may still be able to watch your favorite Salem characters and stories, such as the love story of John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall), the feuds of the DiMera family, and the adventures of the Brady family. Broadcast Dialogue reported Corus remained open to further negotiations. Meanwhile, Eastlink’s director of public affairs, Jill Laing, promised that instead of W Network, the company would offer the same number of channels with comparable programming such as Super Channel Heart and Home, Cottage Life, Discovery Channel, Smithsonian, FX and Family.
Channels distributed by Corus include The W Network, HGTV Canada and Showcase. Other channels like Food Network, History, Slice, National Geographic, CMT, OWN, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, YTV, Cartoon Network, Treehouse, Movie Time, BC1, Global on Demand, DejaView, DTOUR, Magnolia Network, Affected are Crime Investigation, Lifetime, History 2, National Geographic Wild, ABC Spark, Cooking Channel, Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Series Plus, Historia, Disney La Chaine and Teletoon French.
Corus specialty channels will continue to be available through alternative channels such as The Global Tv App, STACKTV, Bell, Telus, Shaw Direct and VMedia depending on subscriber location. Global live TV service FuboTV was quick to announce an entertainment subscription package for customers through the STACKTV platform, which also features prominently through Amazon Prime Video.
Based in Nova Scotia, Eastlink is privately controlled by the Bragg family and operates in seven provinces including Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, serving more than 250,000 cable customers.
