Cloe Lacasse and Jordyn Huitema scored and Canada beat Jamaica 2-1 on Tuesday night in the second leg of both teams’ Olympic qualifiers, securing a spot at the Paris Games next summer.

Canada is the reigning Olympic gold medalist after winning at the Tokyo Games two years ago.

Canada entered the game with a lead after defeating Jamaica 2-0 in the first leg of CONCACAF play-in qualifying in Kingston last week.

The United States had already secured the first of two CONCACAF berths for the Olympics.

Drew Spence gave Jamaica the lead with a goal in the 33rd minute from a free kick that sailed over the wall and into the corner, out of the reach of Canadian goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.

After two shots hit the crossbar, Canada made the breakthrough in the 39th minute with a goal from Lacasse that gave the team a 3-1 lead on aggregate.

Huitema came on as a second-half substitute and scored a goal in the 50th minute in front of a sold-out crowd at BMO Field. The announced number of participants was 29,212.

Canada had a disappointing result at the Women’s World Cup this summer. The Canadians did not make it past the group stage. Jamaica lost to Colombia in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
