The Canadian team won the silver medal in a 3×3 women’s basketball series in Clermont-Ferrand, France, on Saturday. Canada won all four games before losing the gold medal game to host nation France.
Canada won Group A after beating the Chinese U24 team 21-18 and Austria 21-13. Canada then beat Puerto Rico 21-19 in overtime in the quarterfinals and the Netherlands 21-18 in the semifinals before losing to France 21-12 in the final. The Netherlands and Germany each won the bronze medal.
In Canada’s victory over China, Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and Cassandra Brown of Vernon, British Columbia, each scored six points. Plouffe was Canada’s top player with six rebounds. Plouffe and Brown were Canada’s top players with four key assists.
In Canada’s win over Austria, Crozon led Canada with eight points. Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds and Brown led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over Puerto Rico, Brown led Canada with nine points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Smith of Shelburne, Nova Scotia, and Plouffe led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over the Netherlands, Crozon led Canada with eight points and a key assist. Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds and a key assist.
Canada is second in the women’s 3×3 basketball tour standings with 180 points, 70 points behind first-place France. It was their second medal of the season after winning gold in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 24. Canada’s silver medal in Clermont-Ferrand, France, will give them confidence as they prepare for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
