jpnn.com, TOKYO – Canada’s National Women’s Soccer Team secured a place in the finals at the Tokyo Olympics after beating the United States in the semifinals.
Playing at Ibaraki Kashima Stadium, Japan, on Monday (2/8), Jessie Flaming became a Canadian hero thanks to her 74th-minute penalty after an American defender committed an offense in the forbidden area.
Despite winning the game, Canada lost possession to the United States. They only had 44% possession and created just four chances.
While the United States managed to register 13 chances including five leading to the opponent’s goal.
The victory is an increase in achievements for Canada after the Rio 2016 Olympics were only able to win a bronze medal.
It is also the successive failure of the United States to reach the top of the Olympic Games in women’s football.
