The Canada women’s basketball team will be playing for third place in the women’s AmeriCup after suffering a heartbreaking 67-63 semifinal loss to the United States in Saturday night’s semifinals.
Despite being 39-29 down at halftime, Canada played an excellent second half, leading the Americans 63-62 with three minutes left.
Kayla Alexander led Canada with 17 points and nine rebounds while teammate Nirra Fields had 16 points and Aaliyah Edwards added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Cassandre Prosper contributed twelve points and six rebounds.
Lauren Betts led the US standings with 12 points while Rickea Jackson added 11 and Angel Reese added 10. Reese also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Canada meets Puerto Rico in the third-place final on Sunday, while the United States plays Brazil in the championship final.
Brazil defeated Puerto Rico 85-74 in the semifinals earlier on Saturday.
