Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, announced on Friday that flights to Mexico and the Caribbean will be suspended until April 30, in response to new variants of the coronavirus which experts say are more contagious.
The new Canadian restrictions also provide that travelers arriving in this territory are quarantined for 14 days in a hotel they will have to pay for themselves.
Besides, everyone returning to Canada must undergo a PCR test before boarding the plane and another upon arrival at the airport, he reported.

“Travelers will have to wait three days for their test results at an approved hotel, at their own expense, which is expected to be over $ 2,000,” Trudeau said.
“Those who test negative will be able to follow the home quarantine under strict supervision,” he added.

The Canadian Prime Minister stressed that airlines Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transa will cancel all their flights to Mexico and the Caribbean from this Sunday until April 30.
“They will contact their customers who are going to these areas to arrange return flights,” he said.
Another measure announced is that from next week all international passenger flights must land at one of the following four airports: Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary or Montreal.
