Minister of Immigration Canada, Marco Mendicino said he would consider accepting refugees from Afghanistan at the request of the United States or other allies.

According to him, Canada will help by selecting Afghans. If they meet the criteria, he said, his party will help with the evacuation.

“We have to be open to all possibilities,” said Marco. Reuters, Saturday (8/21).

“I think we should be ready to consider such an arrangement,” he added.

According to reports ReutersThe Canadian military successfully deported 175 Afghans and 133 foreign nationals from the country’s capital, Kabul, last Thursday.

So far, Canada claims to have evacuated nearly 1,000 Afghans to date.

“It is expected that (the evacuation) will continue on a regular basis as long as the security situation permits,” he said.

Canada is part of a coalition of countries that evacuated Afghans from the region after the Taliban occupation. They support the Western mission in Afghanistan which has been going on for years.

Canadian troops have been withdrawn from Afghanistan since 2011. However, they remained active in the NATO mission to train the Afghan army until 2014.

An independent Canadian court has approved the acceleration of asylum claims for Afghan refugees.

Last week, Canada said it pledged to welcome 20,000 Afghan refugees who fled the country.

The Taliban group succeeded in occupying the Afghan capital Kabul and the presidential palace on Sunday (8/16). The President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, is said to have fled abroad to avoid the bloodshed caused by the incident.
