A woman has died and several people were stabbed this Saturday (27) in an attack on the Lynn Valley City Library in and around Vancouver. A suspect has been arrested, police said on Twitter. The country’s authorities still do not know what prompted the attack.
Six people were taken to area hospitals, according to an emergency services spokesperson quoted by Canadian television station CBC. A witness told the station that the assailant was arrested and taken by ambulance.

At a press conference, Vancouver Criminal Police Sergeant Frank Jang said the victim was rescued but succumbed to his injuries. The suspect in the attack has a criminal record, he added.
Police also said at the press conference that the suspect acted alone, but they are still unaware of what led him to stab strangers on the street. The man will always be questioned. Your identity has not been revealed.
The attack took place in a wealthy and quiet area in the north of the city, and shocked police and witnesses. “To say the least, it’s very shocking,” said the Canadian police representative. “For everyone, including the police themselves.”
Canadian Justin Prasad, who works outside the library, said the suspect randomly stabbed victims near the library. “Then it was chaos, I saw him in front of the police, he fled and the agents chased him and immobilized him on the ground,” he describes.
The CTV channel posted a video on its website, in which the suspect appears stabbing his leg, before being arrested by police, who demanded that the images be transmitted to the authorities, instead of being posted on social networks.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and several government officials posted messages on Twitter in solidarity with the victims. “My thoughts are with Vancover tonight,” commented the country’s head of government.
“To all of those affected by this violent incident, know that Canadians are thinking of you and want the injured to recover quickly,” he added.
