The Canadian economy created 157,100 jobs in September, bringing the economy back to pre-pandemic levels, Statistics Canada said, compared to economists ‘expectations of 60,000 new jobs, according to the economists’ median estimate.
The unemployment rate fell to 6.9% in September from 7.1% in August. The number of hours worked increased 1.1% over the month, but remains 1.5% below the level it existed before the pandemic. Today’s report is encouraging. the country’s economy and assumes companies are willing and able to hire workers as viral restrictions loosen and high vaccination rates spur optimism among consumers and businesses.
