The Canadian national team improved its record to four wins and zero losses at the 2024 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic. On Thursday, Canada beat Norway 4-1.

Defender Jamie Oleksiak of Toronto, Ontario, was the Canadian team’s leading scorer with two assists. He was the only Canadian with a multi-point game. Jamie Oleksiak is the older brother of Canadian Olympic gold medalist Penny Oleksiak of Toronto, Ontario. Penny Oleksiak won the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter freestyle at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The four Canadian scorers were Dylan Cozens (center) of the Buffalo Sabres of Whitehorse, Yukon, Andrew Mangiapane (left wing) of the Calgary Flames of Bolton, Ontario, Brandon Tanev (left wing) of the Seattle Kraken of Toronto, Ontario, and Jared McCann (left wing) of the Kraken of Stratford, Ontario. Mangiapane scored the game-winning goal at 2:16 of the second period, and Cozens scored another shorthanded goal when Connor Bedard was in the penalty box for unnecessary roughness.

Team Canada is currently tied with Switzerland in first place with 11 points. Both teams have three regular season wins and one overtime win. The biggest surprise of the tournament so far has been Austria. On Thursday they surprised Finland with a 3-2 win.
