The Canadian national team is in the semifinals of the 2024 Paralympic Ice Hockey World Championship in Calgary, Alberta. On Tuesday, Canada defeated the Czech Republic 5-1. With this victory, Canada improved its record to three wins and zero losses, after previously beating Japan 19-0 and Italy 10-0.
Three Canadians scored points in this game. Captain Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ontario, and James Dunn of Wallacetown, Ontario, each scored two goals, while the other Canadian scorer was Liam Hickey of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Meanwhile, five Canadians scored multiple points. In addition to McGregor and Dunn, who each scored two goals, Hickey had a goal and two assists for three points, Auren Halbert of Calgary, Alberta, had two assists, and Dominic Cozzolino of Kitchener, Ontario, had three assists.
Canadian head coach Russ Herrington praised McGregor highly in his post-match press conference.
“Well, you’re talking about someone who is committed to being a high-performance athlete, Tyler sets the standard for our group. I think it’s nice to see that pay off in his performance on the ice. I think one of the things Tyler has done really well this year is he’s learned to regulate his emotions and find that level where he’s intense but still relaxed and calm on the ice.”
Canada will now play China in one of two semifinals. The USA will play the Czech Republic in the other semifinal.
