Canada beat Puerto Rico as visitors 2-0

For third place at CONCACAF – Women Under 20 2022, Canada beat Puerto Rico with two goals at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium. The visitor’s goals were scored by Zoe Burns (37′ 1T, from the penalty spot) and Florianne Jourde (38′ 1T).

Canadian midfielder Olivia Smith missed a chance to increase the lead after missing a penalty in the 59th minute of the second half.

The figure of the match was JLo Varada Vázquez. The Puerto Rican keeper showed his quality by containing 10 shots.

Olivia Smith also played a good game. The Canadian midfielder as he sought the opposing goal with 7 shots.

It was a hard fought game with fouls on both sides.

Puerto Rico strategist Nat González stopped the starting XI with a 4-4-2 formation with JLo Varada Vázquez in goal; Michelle Berndt, Estefanía González Cintrón, Emma González and Bryana Pizarro in the defensive line; Jessica Torres, María Sanabria Buono, Ana Díaz and Brooke Hart in the middle; and Ivy Garner and Alondra Nieves on offense.

For their part, Cindy Tye’s chosen ones took to the field with a 4-4-2 scheme with Anna Karpenko under the three sticks; Brooklyn Courtnall, Jade Rose, Annika Leslie and Zoe Burns on defense; Simi Awujo, Florianne Jourde, Nikayla Small and Olivia Smith at half court; and Miya Grant-Clavijo and Holly Ward up front.

The judge chosen to officiate the match at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium was Katia García Mendoza.
