September 18, 2023 – Ottawa –On May 31, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced changes to Express Entry through category-based selection. These changes will help address labor shortages and support economic objectives by inviting candidates with specific work experience or French language skills to apply for permanent residency.
Today the Honorable Marc Miller, Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that the first round of invitations for transport careers through category-based selection on Express Entry will take place this week. This focus on candidates with experience in the transportation sector – including truck drivers, pilots and aircraft assemblers – will help the sector attract the skilled talent it needs across the country.
Canada’s Express Entry system is now tailored to provide a streamlined and efficient path for individuals with expertise in critical areas. By prioritizing qualified newcomers with experience in transportation careers, Canada aims to meet increasing talent needs and fill key positions that will contribute to the country’s economic growth and progress.
Through category-based selection, Canada reinforces its commitment to attract the best global talent and help meet the need for transportation workers to support the economy. These category-based selection rounds, in addition to general and program-specific invitation rounds, continue throughout the year.
