Camryn Rogers wins Olympic gold in women’s hammer throw

Team Canada won its sixth gold medal at the Olympic Games 2024 in ParisOn Tuesday, Canadian hammer thrower Camryn Rogers from Richmond, British Columbia, won the gold medal.

Rogers threw 76.97 meters. Anette Echikunwoke of the USA won silver with a season’s best of 75.48 meters. Jie Zhao of China won the bronze medal with a throw of 74.27 meters. Rogers won the medal with 2.74 meters. Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland took fourth place with a throw of 74.23 meters.

This is a big moment in Canadian hammer throwing history. On Sunday, Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, British Columbia, won the men’s gold medal.

Katzberg and Rogers were Canada’s best chances to win Olympic gold in track and field, and they did it. The Canadian team still has other chances to win Olympic medals in track and field. Andre de Grasse of Scarborough, Ont., is the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the men’s 200 meters, Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta, is the reigning world champion in the men’s 800 meters, Mohammed Ahmed of St. Catharines, Ont., is the reigning Olympic silver medalist in the men’s 5000 meters, Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, has the world’s best distance in the women’s shot put in 2024 with 20.68 meters and Alysha Newman of London, Ont., won the silver medal in the women’s pole vault at a Diamond League event in London, England, ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the medal standings, Canada is in 10th place with 18 medals. The country has six gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals.
