Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario recorded his 30th shutout in the National Hockey League on Thursday. He achieved this feat in the Los Angeles Kings’ 4-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec. With the victory, the Kings set an NHL record by winning 11 consecutive games to start the season.
Talbot made a total of 24 saves in the competition. He made 13 saves in the first period, seven in the second period and four saves in the third period. Defensemen Kaiden Guhle of Edmonton, Alberta, and Cole Caufield led the Canadiens with three shots each.
Two Canadians scored for the Kings and had a multi-point game. Quinton Byfield of Newmarket, Ont., scored three points with two goals and an assist, and Canadian Olympian Drew Doughty of London, Ont., scored two points with a goal and an assist. Doughty won a gold medal Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and that 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
In the 2023/24 season, Talbot has a record of 12 wins, four regulation losses and one overtime loss. He has a goals-against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .933. The 1.84 goals against average is the best in the NHL.
Talbot’s previous shutout this season was a 5-0 Kings win over the Philadelphia Flyers on November 4th. Of Talbot’s 30 NHL shutouts, 12 came with the Edmonton Oilers, eight with the New York Rangers, five with the Minnesota Wild, two each with the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings and one with the Ottawa Senators.
With the win, the Kings improve to a record of 16 wins, four regulation losses and three overtime losses, a combined 35 points. They are in second place in the Pacific Division, four points behind the division-leading Vegas Golden Knights.
