Calgary restaurants are among the top 100 healthy eateries in Canada

The first week of January is marked by the good intentions of people who are determined to eat healthier. Four Calgary restaurants were rated healthier than most in a new survey released Friday.

Open Table published it Top 100 restaurants with healthy biteswhich said in a media release is intended to “support anyone who wants to eat healthier while enjoying the social aspects of eating out.”

According to the popular foodie website, location is a barrier to healthier eating for many Canadians. 33 percent of respondents believe that there are not many healthy restaurants in their area.

Seven Alberta restaurants made the list, including four from Calgary:

  • Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant
  • Broken plate, YYC Greek Restaurant
  • River Cafe
  • Ten feet Henry

“Fifty-five percent of Canadians surveyed say their resolution is to eat healthier in 2024, but 62 percent find it difficult to discover healthy restaurants. supported list,” said Matt Davis of OpenTable Canada.

The website acknowledges that many Canadians find it difficult to stick to their resolutions and hopes the list will encourage people to look for healthier alternatives when eating out.

“Consumers don’t always realize that wanting to eat better doesn’t mean giving up food,” said registered dietitian and food blogger Abbey Sharp. “There are some simple practices you can adopt to better navigate a restaurant menu and maintain a balanced diet, including focusing on fiber and side dishes.”

The list was created from an online survey of 2,000 consumers in Canada who enjoy dining out. Canada was one of eight markets included in a multimarket survey of 16,000 participants on nutrition and healthy restaurants. The survey took place between November 13th and 27th, 2023.

Other Alberta restaurants included on the list include Jasper’s Raven Bistro, Banff’s Sky Bistro and Heartland Cafe in Okotoks.
