The Toronto Argonauts won their final home game of the 2024 Canadian Football League regular season on Saturday. At Bank of Montreal Field in Toronto, Ontario, it was an exciting game for Argonauts wide receiver Dejon Brissett of Mississauga, Ontario, in Toronto’s 38-31 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks.
Brissett had touchdown catches of 29 yards and 10 yards from Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly. The converted 29-yard score came 13 seconds into the second quarter, giving the Argonauts a 21-0 lead at that point. Brisset’s second converted touchdown came with a minute and 47 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Argonauts a 38-6 lead. The Redblacks even outscored the Argonauts 25-0 in the fourth quarter, tying the score within a touchdown. But it was too little, too late.
Brissett finished the game with five catches for 67 yards. This season he has 13 catches for 165 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
This was the second time in Brissett’s career that he scored two touchdowns in a game. He also achieved the feat in the Argonauts’ 29-14 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on September 23, 2023.
With the win, the Argonauts secured second place in the East Division. They next host the Redblacks in the East Division semifinals on November 2nd, with the winner facing the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division final on November 9th.
First place in the West Division is still up for grabs. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers can take first place with a win over the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. The Roughriders can clinch first place in the division with a win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday and Montreal’s win over Winnipeg. The British Columbia Lions are in third place and will play the second-place team in the West Division semifinals.
