It was a magical day for Team Alberta’s Brett Gallant at the 2024 Montana’s Brier at the Brandt Center in Regina, Saskatchewan. On Sunday, Gallant had two perfect games as Alberta player Brendan Bottcher’s Edmonton team beat Yukon 8-3 and then Ontario 8-2. Accordingly TSN, Gallant is the second curler to have two perfect games in one day at the Brier. The other is Matt Dunstone in 2020.

Team Alberta is one of four teams that are undefeated so far. The others are Aaron Sluchinski of Alberta, Mike McEwen of Saskatchewan and Reid Carruthers of Manitoba. McEwen and Carruthers are 3-0 against Bottcher, while Sluchinski is just 2-0.

Sluchinski managed to win even though Nunavut gave them a big scare. Alberta actually trailed Nunavut 5-1 at one point before coming back 12-10. Alberta had three points in the fourth and eighth ends and four points in the tenth end.

McEwen’s only win came against Koe on Sunday afternoon. The decisive blow for McEwen came in the eighth when he managed to split a guard to the house, resulting in two points. At that point, Saskatchewan took a 5-4 lead.

Reid Carruthers’ team from Manitoba is actually skipped by Canadian 2014 Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Mary, Ont. On Sunday, Carruthers won both games in an extra end. First they beat Ontario 7-6 in the morning and then Northern Ontario 9-8 in the evening.

Three other teams are over .500 with two wins and one loss. There you will find Team Canada, Team Northwest Territories and Team Northern Ontario.
