When the wooden fence posts started to disappear, it was initially thought that they were facing theft. In addition, piles of wood have disappeared from construction sites all over North America.
It didn’t take long for the Canadian state police of Saskatchewan to identify the thief.
Local beavers had stolen the posts to build a dam. He writes The Guardian.
Beaver vandalism
Problematic rodents have also been blamed for a network breach in British Columbia, which prevented an entire city from accessing the internet.
The beavers are said to have gnawed at a cable that left the whole city without a network.
To pour salt on the wound, the animals had even fled with the marking tape of the telecommunications company in order to block their dam, according to the BBC.
Last month, residents of Greenville-sur-la-Rouge demanded that the city’s 800 beavers be wiped out. The reason was that 200 dams on nearby waterways left more than 30 square kilometers of the city underwater. The problem costs hundreds of dollars each year to solve.
Cities across Canada spend millions of dollars every year repairing beaver damage.
