Baby walkers could pose a risk of injury: Health Canada

by Naomi Parham

Health Canada released a Advice on consumer products Wednesday for three baby walkers available for purchase online, warning that they are dangerous for young children and reminding Canadians that baby walkers, also known as toddler walkers, are banned in the country.

The three products are:

  • JHD Baby Walkers Anti-O Shaped Leg Baby Stroller Multifunctional Launch Vehicle for Toddlers
  • LazyChild Baby Walker Anti-O-Leg Baby Walker Multifunctional Anti-Rollover Baby can sit and push to learn to drive
  • Multifunctional walker for toddlers and babies, 6/7-18 months old, with rollover protection for babies

Health Canada says the hikers are exposing the young children to dangers they wouldn’t normally have access to.

“Children in walkers can also fall down stairs, which can result in injury or death,” Health Canada wrote in its advisory.

The Federal Ministry demands that consumers “immediately stop using” the walking aids and dispose of them so that they are never used again. If consumers have experienced health or safety incidents related to the products, they should fill out the form Consumer Product Incident Reporting Form.

There were walkers banned in Canada since 2004including second-hand sales at flea markets and flea markets. There had previously been a voluntary retail ban on the products since 1989.
