Felix Auger-Aliassime from Montreal, Quebec is in the third round of the Australian Open 2024 in Melbourne. On Thursday, Auger-Aliassime defeated Frenchman Hugo Grenier 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. It was a dominant performance from Auger-Aliassime in three of the four sets. Grenier was in control of the second set, but Auger-Aliassime was the better player throughout the match. However, the fourth set was a challenge for Auger-Aliassime as Grenier broke the Canadian in the fourth game and had tied the set at two games apiece at that point. The fact that the game lasted two hours and 56 minutes was a testament to the challenge Grenier posed to Auger-Aliassime.

The game was originally scheduled to take place at 1573 Arena, but was moved to third place due to a lengthy weather delay. It had rained in Melbourne earlier in the day.

Auger-Aliassime was statistically the stronger player. He had 40 winners compared to Grenier who had 13 winners. Auger-Aliassime also broke Grenier eight times in 20 break point chances.

Next up for Auger-Aliassime in round three is Daniil Medvedev from Russia. Auger-Aliassime reached the semifinals of the 2021 United States Open and Medvedev won the 2021 United States Open. In a direct comparison, Auger-Aliassime had no success against Medvedev in the past. He lost all six matches.
