This long-awaited weekend Astromonde, festival organized by the rapper Travis Scott, was due to take place on Friday and Saturday, but a tragedy changed the organization’s plans.

Yesterday (05), the event in Houston, Texas got off to a good start but ended with a lot of confusion in what city fire chief Samuel Peña called a “tragic night”.

According to North American vehicles like Hollywood journalist e Fork, it all started when the canadian rapper Duck took the stage for a collaboration with Travis.

It reportedly happened shortly after 9 p.m. local time when people started running to get closer to the show and stomp on each other.

Tragedy and deaths in Astroworld

According to outside reports, at least 8 people died and 300 were injured, of which 17 were taken to hospital and 11 of them suffered cardiac arrest.

Also according to Peña’s reports, the event’s medical personnel quickly became ineffective due to the large number of people injured, and firefighters had to send around 50 units to NRG Park to help with care.

Videos circulating on the Internet show that Travis Scott’s show reportedly continued even after all the fuss. Additionally, other images show medical professionals taking people to remote locations to serve them, and many of them struggle to get rid of the crowds, not least because people in the audience hopped on their transport carts.

Official note

In a official note published by Astroworld on their social media accounts, the event’s organizers announced that it would no longer take place this Saturday and said:

Our hearts go out to the family at Astroworld Festival tonight – especially those we have lost and their loved ones.

We are focused on supporting local authorities in any way we can. With this in mind, the festival will no longer take place on Saturdays.

As authorities mentioned at their previous press conference, they are investigating the series of cardiac arrests that took place during the event. If you have any relevant information on this, please contact @houstonpolice

We thank our partners at Houston Police, Fire and NRG Park for their responses and support.

We wish everyone who lost loved ones during the Festival of Strength, and not only the causes are investigated, but also those responsible.
