MONTREAL — Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu says she has a minor stress fracture in her back and will miss the upcoming WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati.

Andreescu said on Xthe social media platform formerly known as Twitter reported that she suffered from back pain during her first-round loss to Marta Kostyuk at the Citi Open in Washington, DC on July 31.

She said the pain worsened after her first-round loss to Camila Giorgi at Tuesday’s National Bank Open in Montreal.

Andreescu, 23, from Mississauga, Ontario, says her focus is on recovering from her stress fracture in time for the US Open.

The final tennis major of the season begins August 28 in New York.
