Alex Loutitt becomes Canada’s first ever ski jumping world champion at an event in Slovenia

Alexandria Loutitt became Canada’s first-ever ski jumping world champion on Wednesday with a gold medal on the women’s large hill in Planica, Slovenia.

The 19-year-old from Calgary scored 254.4 points over two jumps, 10.4 points better than silver medalist Maren Lundby of Norway.

Katharina Althaus from Germany took bronze with 235.9 points.

Loutitt and Lundby were level on points after the first jump, but the Canadian pulled away with a second jump of 136.5 meters that earned 133.5 points from the judges.

Alexandria Loutitt from Calgary took the gold medal and won the HS138 ski jumping title at the World Championships in Planica, Slovenia on Wednesday.

It was a breakthrough year for Loutitt, who in January became the first Canadian to win a ski jumping World Cup event on the normal hill in Zao, Japan.

In early February, Louttit became the first Canadian to win a junior world title in ski jumping in Whistler, BC
