We have a two-way tie at the top of the Pool A leaderboard at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary, Alberta. Alberta is currently in first place, tied with Saskatchewan for the lead, as both western provinces have a record of three wins and zero can show defeats.
Alberta is skipped by Selena Sturmay of Edmonton and this is her first appearance at the Scotties. What she was able to do on Sunday afternoon was truly impressive. The 25-year-old rookie defeated Team Canada 8-6. It was an excellent start for Sturmay as she took an impressive 6-1 lead after three ends. Einarson’s team made things pretty interesting after steals in the seventh and eighth ends, but couldn’t carry that momentum into the ninth end. Sturmay’s other wins came against Manitoba (7-5 on Friday) and Prince Edward Island (8-3 on Saturday).
Saskatchewan also has a rookie team that is turning heads as 22-year-old Skylar Ackerman has been brilliant so far. They beat Prince Edward Island 11-8, Manitoba 8-6 and Northern Ontario 6-5. Their next three games will be difficult as they face Quebec, Alberta and Canada in that order. Only one team in Pool B is 3-0. This is Jennifer Jones from Manitoba. Meanwhile, Kate Cameron’s Manitoba team and Ontario’s Rachel Homan are 2-0.
