An Air Canada flight en route from Mexico City to Toronto had to make an emergency landing in Houston last week.
According to the Canadian airline, on Friday, October 13, the aircraft carrying 166 passengers experienced reduced cabin air pressure due to a fault in the aircraft’s air conditioning system.
“As per our standard operating procedures, the pilots brought the aircraft to a depth of less than 10,000 feet and deployed the oxygen masks, but their use was not necessary as there was sufficient oxygen in the cabin,” Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick told CTV News Toronto released a statement on Wednesday.
“The pilot requested an emergency landing to maintain priority and secure a landing site in Houston as the stop was not planned.”
The Boeing 737MAX aircraft landed safely and there were no injuries.
Air Canada said it offered passengers “expense compensation,” meaning accommodations for the evening before they flew to their final destination the next day.
