Tennis News: Denis Shapovalov shares his thoughts on the incredible course with Felix Auger Aliassime after winning the semi-finals of the 2022 ATP Cup season.
The world number 14 says it feels good to be able to share such incredible moments with his compatriot Auger Aliassime. After growing up together, he admits the two have motivated each other in recent seasons.
The two young tennis stars successfully led Canada to the 2022 ATP Cup season finale, beating defending champions Russia, reinforced by Daniil Medvedev and Roman Safiullin, 2-1.
In one of the interviews, the world number 14 revealed that the spectacular chemistry of the Canadian team sets them apart from other teams. He also emphasized that he and Auger Aliassime support and complement each other which helps them develop their game.
“Felix and I grew up together, we went through all tournament categories to get to this position, so it’s really great to be able to share every moment with him,” said Shapovalov.
“The chemistry of our team is spectacular. We’re on good terms, I can say a lot better than most of the other teams, which is really good for us. I think that’s what kept us going sometimes.
Interestingly, the two Canadian starlets were childhood friends and they started learning to play tennis around the same time. They even faced each other in the junior tournament.
“Felix and I motivated each other, against England he played amazingly well in singles and I wasn’t that good. There were times he cheered me on in doubles.” , added Shapovalov.
Canada will face Spain in the 2022 ATP Cup season final. But the Spanish side will be without Rafael Nadal, who also reached the Melbourne Summer Set final this week.
In the same interview, the world number 14 praised the Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta, who he said was very solid and served very well. According to him, Carreno Busta whom he will face in the final will be a great challenge for him.
However, he also made it clear that he believes in himself and Auger Aliassime and is confident heading into the final.
“Carreno is a great player, he is very solid. Of course, he likes hard courts, he likes to dictate points and he serves really well. So it will be a challenge for me, “said Shapovalov.
“I feel confident, I believe in myself and I trust Felix. The whole team will give it their all. I hope that will be enough.
