(TALKING) – The management of marine resources has not escaped criticism from the former TNI commander, General (retired) Gatot Nurmantyo.
Indonesia, Gatot said, is the second longest coastline in the world after Canada. It contains over 17,504 islands and 1,650 species of fish and 480 types of coral reefs.
But this wealth is what prompts other countries to try to control Indonesian waters in a way that violates the law.
“This is what makes us call paradise, everyone comes here. Yes, mainly by stealing fish, coral reefs, illegal fishing to get big economic benefits,” Gatot said, quoted by the agency. RMOL political information, Friday (11/5).
Gatot then referred to data from the former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, who said that the value of Indonesia’s losses due to illegal fishing reached 300 trillion rupees per year.
“(This figure) can be used to pay interest on the debt. Not to mention the issue of fuel subsidies for foreign vessels, smuggling up to 3,000 tonnes by large vessels taking from fishermen. So if you calculate it, it is extraordinary fish, not yet what else “, he continued.
Therefore, the Presidium of the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (KAMI) calls on the younger generation to stand up and take all of Indonesia’s natural wealth and hand it over to the Indonesian people.
“I think you understand better whether the current state of Indonesia’s natural resource management is still in danger of being torn apart, or has been indiscriminately vetted and vetted,” Gatot concluded.
