North Field: (Canada won the toss): Canada (2 points) defeated Panama (0) by 163 runs
Opening batsman Aaron Johnson’s vicious 121 runs from 59 balls led Canada to a big win over Panama and kept the pressure on Bermuda in the race for the T20 World Cup.
Man of the match Johnson, the first batsman to score 100 in the tournament, hit a career-best knock of 11 fours and six fours as Canada posted 230 for four in 20 overs. In response, Panama managed just 67 in 17.1 overs.
Johnson isn’t giving up on the fight to compete on the biggest stage of all and sees it as his responsibility to increase his team’s run rate.
“Net run rate is very important to us,” Johnson said.
“We know we still have a lot of work to do and I’m really glad we’re fighting back. We show team spirit and show what we’re made of. We’re coming together strong and let’s see how we prepare.
“The wicket was a bit difficult at the start, the ball was also a bit slow so I needed some time to get used to the pace off the wicket, but it was a good shot for me and the Canadian team.”
