FIFA announced this Friday (7) the finalists for its award for the best in the world of the year, The Best. Lionel Messi, 34, who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in August, Robert Lewandowski, 33, of Bayern, and Mohamed Salah, 29, of Liverpool, are the nominees.
The last recipient of the trophy was Pole Lewandowski, who remained at a high level. Argentina’s Messi won the Ballon d’Or in November, offered by France Football magazine, and is trying to unify the ace titles of 2021. Egyptian Salah is seeking the prize for the first time.
In the women’s competition, the laurel will be between Spain’s Jennifer Hermoso and Alexia Putellas, both of Barcelona, and Australian Sam Kerr of Chelsea. As with the men, the vote is taken by the captains and coaches of the national teams and the journalists.
The nominees for the other categories had already been announced by FIFA, which will host its awards celebration on the 17th. The ceremony will take place at its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
