Another bad news for BlackBerry in 2021. With the impossible mission Launching a new high-end smartphone with a physical keyboard and 5G connectivity before the end of the year, the firm reaffirmed its decision to cancel support for equipment under its proprietary software on January 4, 2022.
As soon as the end-of-year festivities are over, the services that take place under Blackberry OS 7.1, BB10 o Playbook OS 2.1 – the software for your tablet – will not be available from next Tuesday. Along with these services, computers running the operating system will not be able to access services using a data or wireless network, nor will they be able to call emergency centers or use text messaging.
“We thank our many loyal customers and partners over the years, and invite you to learn more about how BlackBerry provides intelligent security software and services to businesses and governments around the world. “ points out Blackberry in one updated statement.
Does not affect BB Android … yet
While this measure may affect a range of services, a large portion of these have been updated to work on Android, a shift that allowed the Canadian firm to reach other markets by working hand in hand with TCL until August 2020. However, these teams will only have support in the company’s software until as of August 31, 2022.
In this first round, the teams concerned will be the first to be announced with Blackberry 7.1 OS in 2012, like the popular BlackBerry Curve, Bold and Torch. In addition, the BB10 generation launched in January 2013 is included: Z10, Q5, Q10 and Z30, Passport, Classic and Leap.
