Riot Blockchain, a US-based cryptocurrency mining company, is working to use immersion cooling in its Bitcoin mining equipment (ACSII) at its digital asset farm in Texas. With this, the company hopes to improve the efficiency of the equipment, save electricity and reduce the impact of its operation on the environment.
According to studies, the solution is able to reduce the heat generated by the equipment by 95%, modifying the temperature of the environment and giving more longevity to the equipment used in mining.
Studies also show that it is possible to convert about 40% of this heat into energy, resulting in savings on the company’s electricity bill and less damage to the environment.

Another advantage of the new method is the reduction of up to 95% of the noise emitted by the equipment when it is immersed in liquids. While this seems a bit futile, it’s important to note that an illegal Canadian cryptocurrency mining company was recently fined 30 million reais for its activities, and it was not discovered until due to the loud sounds emitted by the devices.
Riot Blockchain plans to implement this system as early as 2021.
Liquid cooling for mining is already in use
As Riot Blockchain is poised to be the first company to use this solution on a large scale, liquid cooling in cryptocurrency mining equipment is not without precedent.
Canadian mining company MintGreen announced in October that it was implementing an equipment cooling system called Digital boilers (Digital boilers, in free translation) on their farms, which also works by submerging the devices in water.
The difference is that MintGreen intends to sell and distribute the liquid used for cooling hot water services in the city of North Vancouver. In this way, the company hopes to save on electricity costs while helping the municipality’s infrastructure.
The company intends to start its activities with the Digital boilers in 2022.
