A Canadian couple decided to transport an entire house (even all) across a lake. And it worked almost as well as it looks: the couple barely ended up homeless. Daniele Penney and Kirk Lovell of the small town of McIvers, Canada, despite the fear, managed to make the century-old building nearly a mile across the waters.
the dream house
Penney has kept an eye on the big old house for years. She has always talked about the beauty of the property, with an open concept, low ceilings upstairs and even an old porcelain sink was part of her wishes.

However, the girl was unable to buy the house while the whole property was for sale, and it ended up being bought by other people. When Penny learned that the new owners’ plan was to demolish the property, she spoke to them and arranged for the house to be transported to her own land, about a mile away.
The problem was that the furniture could not be moved by land due to the high voltage lines in the community. Then came the idea of transporting the old house by water, using excavators and dory boats (small flat-bottomed fishing boats, also serving as auxiliary boats for the larger boats in the seas. North).
An excavator brought the house to the water, with the property placed on a frame with wheels. This process took a week, with plastic barrels and polystyrene insulation floating the property above the lake.
Non-motor problems
Lovell’s dory began to pull home, along with two other boats. During the trip, already over the lake, the boy’s little boat had a problem with its engine, with the property losing momentum forward, starting to fill with water and sink).
Using the paddle, Lovell reached the shore and jumped onto another dory, getting plenty of reinforcements from the community members. Quickly, several dories appeared, saving the house which was “drowning”.
The property arrived on the other side safe and sound, being removed and taken to the new land with the help of other excavators. The whole process took less than 5 hours. Water damage to the property was minimal.
To dry the house, fans and a wood stove were used. Apparently there are no rot or mold issues in the property. With all the used equipment and most importantly a very helpful community, Penney’s dream home is in its right place.
