Sports writing, December 2 (EFE) .- Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz and Colombian Yeimar Gómez Andrade, both of the Seattle Sounders, and Argentina’s Valentín Castellanos of New York, stand out among the Hispanic players who make up the Ideal Eleven of MLS in 2021.
The American Football League on Thursday unveiled the players who are part of the ideal squad, which also include Argentinian Gustavo Bou and Spaniard Carles Gil, of the New England Revolution, and Brazilian João Paulo, of the Sounders.
Forward Ruidíaz was Seattle’s top scorer for the fourth consecutive season. In 2021, the Peruvian scored 17 goals in 26 games. It was the second time that the forward has been among the best players in the League.
Yeimar Gómez, a 29-year-old defender, lived his second season with the Sounders where he played 33 games, 29 as a starter, and his level led him to be called up for the Colombian national team for the first time.
Valentin Castellanos, 23, was the league’s top scorer with 19 goals in 32 games, his biggest goal in four years in MLS. The Mendoza native will play the conference final this Sunday when New York visits the Philadelphia Union.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old forward Gustavo Bou led all four New England footballers into the Ideal Eleven, the second for a team behind just five at Miami Fusion in 2001.
Another member of the Revolution on the list is midfielder Gil, along with Canadians Tajon Buchanan and Matt Turner named MLS top goaltender in 2021.
João Paulo, a 30-year-old midfielder, made his career debut in the season draw in his second year in the league.
Alongside Yeimar Gómez in defense, Miles Robinson of Atlanta United and Walker Zimmerman of Nashville SC. The midfielder is completed by Hany Mukhtar of Nashville SC.
