Russian Rangers forward Artemy Panarin challenged Boston forward Brad Marchand during the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. The meeting took place in Boston and ended in a 5-2 victory for the Rangers.
The incident occurred 12 seconds before the end of the third period. Panarin and Marchand, being on the benches, were talking. At that point, the Russian threw a glove on the Canadian. Both players were penalized 10 minutes.
In the game itself, Panarin scored an abandoned puck and an assist.
Marchand is the 2016 World Champion and the 2016 World Cup winner with the Canadian National Team. With Boston in 2011, he won the Stanley Cup.
Marchand is known for his aggressive playstyle and provocative actions against his opponents, whom he has kissed and licked on multiple occasions.
The Rangers have 29 points after 20 games and are ranked 4th in the Eastern Conference standings. Boston has scored 20 points in 17 games and is 10th.
