TASS, November 14. The women’s ice hockey teams from Denmark, the Czech Republic and Sweden became the last participants in the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
From November 11 to 14, three qualifying tournaments were held in Germany, the Czech Republic and Sweden, the winners of which won tickets to the Olympic Games. In the tournament in Germany, the Danish team took first place, the Austrians second, the Germans third, and the Italians – fourth. The hostesses won the tournament in the Czech Republic, the Hungarians took second place, in the match for third place, the national teams of Norway and Poland will play. The hostesses also won the competition in Sweden, the French took second place, the Slovaks took third place, the South Korean national team took fourth place.
Ten national teams will participate in the Olympic women’s hockey tournament, seven of which have qualified for the tournament according to the rankings of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Russian national team will play in Group A with teams from Canada, USA, Finland and Switzerland. In addition to the qualifying winners, Group B included teams from Japan and China.
All teams from Group A and the top three teams from Group B will advance to the quarter-finals. The Olympic Women’s Hockey Tournament takes place from February 3 to 17.
The Olympic women’s hockey tournament has been held since 1998, and the national teams of Canada and the United States have played in the final five times. The only non-North American team to reach the final were Sweden, which lost to the Canadians in the deciding 2006 game (1: 4). Team Canada has won the Olympics four times, while Team USA has won two. The current Olympic champions are American women.
The Russian national team has never won Olympic medals. Bronze prizes have been won three times by Finns, once by Swedes, Americans and Swiss. The best result of the Russian team at the Olympics is fourth place in 2018.
