Due to the refugee situation in Belarus, the European Union could impose sanctions on around 45 people, according to RIA Novosti citing a source at the European Commission. The sanctions list will likely include officials, banks and financial institutions across the country.

Reuters diplomatic sources in the EU said the sanctions would threaten 30 Bolrusia individuals and entities. Ms von der Leyen also said that the EC would consider the possibility of imposing sanctions against airlines “which facilitate the illegal transport of people to Minsk and then to the border between the EU and Belarus”. The companies Aeroflot and Turkish Airlines, which the media call involved in the transport of migrants, deny the accusations.
