The documentary “Cercados” was selected for the Hot Docs, Canadian documentary festival. The announcement was made on Tuesday (23).
The movie is available on Globoplay and tells the story and behind-the-scenes coverage of the novel coronavirus through the eyes of the press.
The Hot Docs Film Festival is the largest documentary event in North America and is in its 28th year. It takes place annually in Toronto, Canada.
In this edition, the online lineup will feature the premieres of streaming documentaries, live events and other content from April 29 to May 9.
Cemeteries, full hospitals, the reception of the Palácio da Alvorada and the agenda of the meetings of the main press vehicles in Brazil are presented in nearly two hours of film. Watch the trailer above.
“Journalism and science, as ways of knowing reality, faced a double challenge: face denial and help people take care of themselves and institutions to make decisions that would protect as many citizens as possible“, explains director Caio Cavechini.
“In describing the routine of Brazilian vehicles in the pandemic, ‘Cercados’ makes a historic record for this challenge. Instead of an interview documentary, we prefer to make an immersive production, recording daily the situations experienced by dozens of journalists from the most varied vehicles in the country, ”he continues.

“It was a huge challenge to simultaneously follow the evolution of five cities, with teams working to offer a special look at journalistic activity in the midst of this turmoil,” concludes the director.
